Masterful is the most fitting description of “Past Lives” directed by Celine Song. With the backdrop of Seoul, Korea and New York City, a back and forth relationship between twostar-crossed lovers spans oceans and decades.
The poetically paced story takes an unexpected turn when Nora (played by Greta
Lee) agrees to hang out with her long-lost childhood love (Teo Yoo) during his first visit to America with the approval of her husband. While English and Korean are spoken seamlessly throughout the film, the artful use of silence create the most riveting moments in the story.
Song’s masterful storytelling is a testament to true love being unbound by time, language, space or circumstance. This A24 film is a must-see masterpiece. Find showtime at your local theater and thank me later!
