Tina, When Will You Marry?
Story
As she clocks 30, Tina’s faced with the sudden pressure to get married. By exploring the stories of three unconventional Nigerian-Canadian women, she decides to tune out the society and traditions that try to dictate what life should look like.
The pressure to get married is one that affects Nigerian women across the globe from the age their bodies can reproduce through the rest of their lives.
Historically, there are cultural reasons why marriage in Nigeria was considered to be extremely important, so much so that marriages are still considered a union of families, not individuals. Today, these reasons seem far less important or relevant, for individuals who have immigrated abroad to form new societies
This documentary touches on a much broader conversation about ‘Tradition vs. Modernity’ and will highlight the importance of one’s culture, as well as encourage the adaptation of culture to one’s individual desires.
